De E3 van 2020 gaat niet door wegens het Coronavirus. IGN Amerika was altijd één van de grootste media die aanwezig was op de E3 met een eigen stand. De annulering van de E3, raakt IGN behoorlijk hard, maar IGN heeft een oplossing.
Die oplossing heet “Summer of Gaming” digital event. In de tijd dat normaal de E3 gehouden zou worden begin juni, komt IGN met een grootschalig digitaal evenement. Grote uitgevers waaronder 2K Games, Amazon, Bandai Namco, Devolver Digital, Google, SEGA, Square-Enix en THQ Nordic hebben al interesse getoond. Meer uitgevers en ontwikkelaars worden in de komende tijd bekendgemaakt.
IGN geeft aan dat gamers kunnen uitkijken naar livestreams met daarin presentaties, previews, interviews, discussies, hands-on demo’s, nieuwssegmenten en meer tijdens Summer of Gaming.
“With the next generation of console gaming kicking off later this year and gamers eager to learn more about what games they’ll be playing on their new hardware, our online event will be a key moment for publishers and developers to connect with the audience worldwide,” said IGN chief content and product officer Peer Schneider in a statement.
IGN EVP and general manager Yael Prough added, “More and more people are turning towards video games for entertainment and escapism. Last week we saw new records for traffic across all of our platforms—we’re excited to bring this global, digital event to our audiences and partners—as this will be an event not to be missed.”
