Dragon Ball is misschien wel de meest populaire Anime-serie in de hele wereld, maar de laatste jaren is er geen Anime-serie geweest behalve spin-offs voor de card game Dragon Ball Heroes en de nieuwe film Dragon Ball Super Superhero.
Een grote aankondiging werd door Toei Animation geteased voor de New York Comic Con. Daar is de onderstaande trailer getoond van de nieuwe serie Dragon Ball Daima. Dit wordt een weekly Anime waarbij de eerste aflevering eind 2024 zal worden uitgezonden in Japan. Een releasedatum voor het westen is er nog niet, maar de voice actress van Bulma heeft al aangegeven dat Dragon Ball Daima ook naar het westen komt. De serie lijkt een beetje het concept over te nemen van de klassieke serie Dragon Ball GT. Door een wens bij Shenron, zijn alle personages ineens heel jong geworden waaronder Goku en Vegeta. De helden gaan op avontuur om de wens ongedaan te maken.
Dragon Ball bedenker, schrijver en tekenaar namelijk de legendarische Akira Toriyama, is verantwoordelijk voor character design van Dragon Ball Daima. Toriyama had het volgende te zeggen over Dragon Ball Daima aan de fans die aanwezig waren op de New York Comic Con.
“Hello, I’m Akira Toriyama. I’m currently working on a new Dragon Ball. The title is Dragon Ball Daima. Daima is a made-up term… [which] in English would be something like Evil. Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small.
“In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Power Pole to fight, something not seen in a long time.
“I came up with the story and settings as well as a lot of the designs. I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual. “Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball World. Hope you all enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful.”
