Nog een studio die besluit om te herstructureren en daardoor veel banen worden geschrapt. Ontwikkelaar Supermassive Games, bekend van horrorgames zoals Until Dawn en The Dark Pictures Anthology, ontslaat 30% van het personeel wegens grote uitdagingen.
Supermassive Games noemt geen precieze aantallen in de statement die naar buiten is gebracht, maar game journalist Jason Schreier van de website Bloomberg meldt dat het gaat om ongeveer 90 weknemers. Het is opvallend dat Supermassive Games veel mensen op straat zet, want de studio is bezig met meerdere grote projecten. Zo wordt er voor Bandai Namco, Little Nightmare III gemaakt. Voor uitgever Behaviour Interactive wordt er een unieke game gebaseerd op het personage Frank Stone uit de Dead by Daylight gemaakt. Supermassive Games werkt ook aan de volgende horrorgame in de Dark Pictures Anthology-serie. Met minder mankracht zullen mogelijk enkele van deze projecten tegen problemen aanlopen of uitgesteld worden.

“It’s no secret that the games industry is currently facing significant challenges, and unfortunately we aren’t immune to this.
After much deliberation and with deep regret, we are therefore undertaking a reorganization of Supermassive Games. As a result, we are entering into a period of consultation, which we anticipate will result in the loss of some of our colleagues.
This is not a decision that’s been taken lightly, with many efforts made to avoid this outcome.
We are all too aware of how unsettling and difficult this process is going to be for all our employees and will be working closely with all those involved to ensure the process is conducted as respectfully and compassionately as possible.
