Het is bijna weer tijd voor The Game Awards. De show die gezien wordt als de Oscars maar dan voor videogames, zal in de nacht van 6 op 7 december 2023 worden gehouden.
De genomineerden zijn nu bekendgemaakt en dit jaar is er een grote strijd gaande. Meerdere games hebben dit jaar tienen gescoord van de internationale game media, iets wat in voorgaande jaren veel minder het geval was. Vaak zijn er 1 of twee grote kandidaten voor game of the year, maar dit jaar maken de games Resident Evil 4 Remake, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder en Alan Wake 2, kans om gekozen te worden als de beste game van het jaar 2023.
2023 was een waanzinnig jaar wat betreft geweldige games. De hoeveelheid vette games was zo groot dat titels als Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, Diablo IV en zelfs Starfield niet tussen de 6 genomineerden voor game van het jaar staan.
De grootste prijs van de show is Game of the Year maar er zijn ook andere prijzen die uitgedeeld worden. Zo zijn er onder andere prijzen voor beste soundtrack, beste art direction en beste indiegame.
