Het is bijna weer tijd voor The Game Awards. De show die gezien wordt als de Oscars maar dan voor videogames. Dit jaar zal de show in de nacht van 12 december 2024 gehouden worden. The Game Awards 2024 is extra interessant, want de show bestaat 10 jaar en dat zal groots gevierd worden.
De genomineerden per categorie voor beste games van 2024 zijn nu alvast bekendgemaakt. Veel games hebben een kans om een prijs te winnen. Hoewel Sony dit jaar weinig games heeft uitgebracht, maakt de Japanse gigant wel de kans om de meeste prijzen te pakken. Sony PlayStation-games staan genomineerd voor maar liefst 16 prijzen. Square-Enix staat op de tweede plek met 12 nominaties gevolgd door Microsoft Xbox die ook 12 nominaties heeft. SEGA staat op de vierde plek wat betreft nominaties, gevolgd door Bandai Namco.
De grootste game van het jaar 2024 is ook interessant. Astro Bot, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong en Metaphor: ReFantazio gaan strijden om de grootste prijs, namelijk de game van het jaar 2024. Opvallend is dat Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree in het rijtje staat en niet Silent Hill 2 Remake zoals velen hadden verwacht. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is namelijk geen game maar een uitbreiding. Organisator Geoff Keighley heeft dit jaar besloten om ook DLC’s kans te laten maken op de beste prijs.
De grootste prijs van de show is Game of the Year maar er zijn ook andere prijzen die uitgedeeld worden. Zo zijn er onder andere prijzen voor beste soundtrack, beste art direction en beste indiegame.
