De Gamescom krijgt voor het eerst een live openingsceremonie waar uitgevers nieuwe games gaan aankondigen en updates worden bekendgemaakt voor bestaande games. De presentatie die op op 19 augustus om 20:00 uur Nederlandse tijd zal plaatsvinden, zal worden gedaan door Geoff Keighley (de man achter The Game Awards).
15 uitgevers zullen tijdens de livestream aan bod komen om een aankondiging te doen namelijk Square Enix, Activision, Electronic Arts, Capcom, THQ Nordic, Google Stadia, Bungie, Bandai Namco, Koch Media/Deep Silver, Epic Games, Square Enix, Sony, 2K, Ubisoft, Xbox Game Studios en Sony Interactive Entertainment. Laatstgenoemde zal ons een “exclusive new look” geven voor Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding.
