De rechtszaak tussen Microsoft en de Amerikaanse waakhond FTC is in volle gang over de overname van Activision Blizzard door Microsoft voor een bedrag van 69 miljard dollar.
De rechter vraagt Microsoft executives veel vragen en één daarvan ging over Call of Duty op de PlayStation 6, want Microsoft belooft dat Call of Duty de komende 10 jaar op PlayStation gaat uitkomen. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer heeft aangegeven dat de volgende generatie consoles naar verwachting in 2028 gelanceerd worden. Dat is binnen de 10 jaar en dus verschijnt Call of Duty ook zeker op de PlayStation 6.
“This term would, in any case, go beyond the expected starting period of the next generation of consoles (in 2028),” reads a statement from Microsoft. “Thus, Call of Duty will be published on successor PlayStation consoles should one be released during the term of the agreement. The agreement also would ensure that Call of Duty console games is offered on PlayStation at parity with Xbox.”
De uitspraak is opvallend, want tot nu toe werd er niet gesproken over de opvolgers van de PlayStation 5 en de Xbox Series-consoles. Deze komen dus naar verwachting in 2028 in de winkels. De PS5 en Xbox Series-consoles verschenen in 2020.
