Ontwikkelaar Fnastic gaat de servers van de de recent gelanceerd post apocalyptische MMO genaamd The Day Before, offline halen.
Op 22 januari 2024 gaan de servers van The Day Before offline. De game is dan niet meer officieel online speelbaar. Offline play blijft wel beschikbaar, maar er komt geen nieuwe content of updates, want Fntastic gaat de deuren sluiten. De studio gaat ophouden met bestaan wegens financiële problemen die niet zijn verholpen met de lancering van The Day Before in Early Access. The Day Before is volgens Fntastic 6 jaar in ontwikkeling geweest.
Het plan was om de servers online te houden, maar daar komt Fntastic nu ook op terug. Op 22 januari 2024 worden de stekkers uit de servers getrokken. Daarmee is The Day Before officieel maar 45 dagen online speelbaar geweest. The Day Before had tijdens launch een piekmoment van 38.104 gelijktijdige spelers op Steam Early Access.
The Day Before is inmiddels niet meer te koop. Valve heeft de game uit Steam gehaald, maar scalpers verkopen inmiddels volledige game codes op tweedehands websites die nog op Steam in te voeren zijn, maar wel voor absurde bedragen. Iedereen die The Day Before via Steam Early Access heeft aangeschaft, kan een refund aanvragen.

Statement Fntastic over het offline halen van The Day Before
“Dear community, we regret to inform you the development company Fntastic has officially ceased operations, and as a result, The Day Before will be retired and the servers will be turned off on [January 22, 2024]. As previously communicated, Mytona, as the investor, has been working in collaboration with Steam to facilitate refunds for all game purchases. For any players that have not already had their purchase refunded, Steam will now proactively refund all remaining players.
“We extend our gratitude for the community’s support throughout the project’s life. Unfortunately, without a development team, we had no alternative choice but to officially close the project. We sincerely thank all our supporters throughout this journey and wish you all a happy holiday season.”
